Biography
Judge Griffith teaches courses related to the separation of powers and the judicial process. He was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the D. C. Circuit in 2005 by President George W. Bush. Immediately prior to his appointment to the D. C. Circuit, Judge Griffith was the General Counsel of Brigham Young University working primarily on religious liberty issues in American higher education. He was also a partner in the Washington, D. C. law firm of Wiley, Rein & Fielding concentrating on complex commercial litigation and government investigations. He left private practice for four years to serve as Senate Legal Counsel, the chief legal officer of the United States Senate. In that capacity, he was involved in numerous committee investigations, litigation protecting Senate prerogatives and Acts of Congress, and the impeachment trial of President Clinton. Judge Griffith graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law where he was an editor of the law review.
